C-SHRP C-LTPP Data Now Available within InfoPaveTM

The Canadian Long-Term Pavement Performance Program (C-LTPP) data has been incorporated into the US LTPP Program web portal, known as InfoPaveTM.

The LTPP program was initiated in 1987 to address a wide range of pavement information needs and has accumulated extensive data, documents and related tools.  InfoPaveTM is the interface for the LTPP Information Management System which allows users to view, visualize, extract and employ LTPP data. Registered users must sign in to access the data.  There is no cost to register or to access the data.

The Canadian data can be found under the Non-LTPP tab, C-LTPP Data, along with numerous related reports published by the Canadian Strategic Highway Research Program (C-SHRP).

In 1989, C-SHRP launched a national full scale field experiment, known as C-LTPP, as a complementary study to the US LTPP program.  The program was conducted under the auspices of the Council of Deputy Ministers Responsible for Transportation and Highway Safety.  The Council’s Engineering and Research Support Committee has provided oversight for C-LTPP activities in recent years.

Between 1989 and 1992, a total of 24 test sites were constructed across Canada. Each test site contained multiple monitored sections for a total of 65 sections.  The belief was that as the test sections were monitored over time, the underlying mechanism which relates the input factors of design, construction and service conditions to the measured performance would become known. Extension of pavement life and cost reductions for construction and maintaining pavements would result from application of these mechanisms to produce better designs and to devise better maintenance and rehabilitation practices.

Monitoring of the C-LTPP test sites concluded in 2013 and all of the descriptive, historical, materials and monitoring data has been combined into a database.  The data can be accessed through the C-SHRP website at www.cshrp.org, and now through InfoPaveTM.

The key drivers for establishing the C-LTPP program still exist today, more than 25 years after the initiation of test section monitoring.  There is a rich base of information still to be harvested from C-LTPP studies that will aid in improving the performance of pavements.  Releasing the data through InfoPaveTM is expected to significantly facilitate access to, and use of, the data by a broader range of researchers and practitioners in Canada, the United States and around the world.
