Committee updates
The Council received updates from its four committees.
The Geometric Design Committee meeting attracted 98 attendees. It featured final pooled-fund project presentations on lower-speed roads and cross-section elements. Notable discussions focused on a 1.6-m path of travel minimum width, bus rapid transit, Saskatchewan’s offset left project, and electric vehicle charging station design guidelines.
The Road Safety Committee meeting involved 140 participants, setting a new record for the largest TAC committee meeting ever. It heard presentations on TAC’s lower-speed collector and arterial roads pooled-fund project, on data-driven prioritization of community safety zones, and on automated speed enforcement operations in Brantford. It also discussed the Safe System approach.
The Small Municipalities Integrated Committee meeting was attended by 13 participants, who heard presentations from Mobycon on planning transportation in small communities and from TAC’s Grant for Young Professionals in Small Municipalities recipient, Kalyna Cipywnyk of Melfort, SK.
The Traffic Operations & Management Committee meeting attracted 74 participants who heard a presentation from the City of Portland’s Adam Moore on Dutch-style bicycle signals, and a final presentation on TAC’s flashing amber arrow signals pooled-fund project.
