What’s New with TAC’s Technology Council

This is one of several articles profiling the online Spring Technical Meetings of TAC’s six councils and their committees that took place from March to May 2025.

TAC’s Technology Council had 33 attendees at its spring meeting.

Guest presentations
The Council heard presentations from David Huntley of the Geological Survey of Canada on landslide disaster risk reduction for transportation corridors and from Jingtao Ma of Miovision on V2X services.

Technical projects
TAC continues to seek funding partners for the Council-initiated project Micro-Utility Devices in Public Rights-of-Way: Considerations for Road Authorities.

Committee updates
The Council received updates from its three committees.

The Connected and Automated Vehicles Integrated Committee meeting attracted 35 participants, who heard a presentation from Aisha Manderson of FP Innovations on autonomous transportation for resource roads. They also discussed an upcoming fall workshop to plan the future scope of the committee’s work.

The Digital Applications Committee meeting attracted 39 participants, who received a presentation from Emily Gallant of GHD onthe use of artificial intelligence for public engagement. Attendees also discussed ongoing volunteer projects as well as continued work on digital twinning, data analytics and visualization tools, and AI and machine learning.

The Intelligent Transportation Systems Committee held a meeting with 46 participants. The committee heard presentations from Terry Brookes of the Northwest Territories Department of Transportation and Infrastructure on rural ITS user experiences, and from Winnie Lai of the City of Vaughan on its OVIN demonstration zone. The committee also discussed volunteers’ approaching completion of a primer on rural ITS.
