TAC’s Volunteer Centre: A platform for collaboration

February 26, 2025

The Transportation Association of Canada (TAC)’s volunteers are collaborating online more than ever. To support this, the Association has launched a new Volunteer Centre—an interactive, feature-rich online platform designed for council and committee collaboration.

Built on Microsoft SharePoint, the Volunteer Centre replaces TAC’s previous file storage site and offers more than 30 dedicated team sites for TAC councils and committees.

What’s Inside?

The Volunteer Centre home page, maintained by TAC staff, provides:

  • Direct access to council and committee team sites
  • A resource library with volunteer guides, templates, checklists, training materials, and more
  • News articles about TAC council and committee meetings and volunteer awards
  • A link to TAC’s calendar of upcoming events, including committee meetings and lunch & learns
  • Answers to frequently asked questions

Each team site, managed by Volunteer Executives, includes:

  • Executive updates and announcements
  • A shared file library for reviewing and editing documents collaboratively
  • An interactive discussion board

Key Features

The discussion boards are particularly valuable, allowing volunteers to exchange information without relying on email. Volunteers can:

  • Post questions and suggestions
  • Collaborate on projects or conference sessions
  • Create and contribute to discussion threads
  • Like and comment on posts
  • Set up alerts (immediate, daily, or weekly) for thread updates

The global search function is another powerful tool. For example, searching “artificial intelligence” from the Volunteer Centre home page would return every instance of that phrase across council or committee news, files or images—helping volunteers track technical topics across TAC’s entire network.

Accessing the Volunteer Centre

All members of TAC councils and committees should have access to the Volunteer Centre. If you experience any issues, follow these instructions or contact tp-pt@tac-atc.ca for help.
