The Junior Transportation Coordinator is a key member of the Transportation Demonstration Zone team. The Junior Transportation Coordinator is responsible for providing oversight of the day-to-day operations of the Demonstration Zones. This position also has a dotted line reporting relationship with the Smart City Program Manager in Economic Development department.

Demonstration Zone Planning, Promotion, and Admission Process
• Gathers transportation challenges from internal stakeholders, turn them into clear challenge statements, and schedule them strategically across application call periods for innovators to apply.
• Facilitates the Demonstration Zone application process, review and selection process, coordinating review of applications with internal stakeholders, external technical consultants, the project team and others as needed.
• Plans, coordinates and facilitates the forming of committees required for screening of applications to the demonstration zone.
Project Coordination – Demonstration Zone Implementation
• Liaises with both internal and external stakeholders to define project scopes and coordinate logistics for various demonstration projects. Ensures ongoing communication is maintained among internal and external program stakeholders and regional partners.
• Coordinates day-to-day operations of the Transportation Demonstration Zones.
• Oversees timelines and deliverables, addressing risks and barriers to accomplish demonstration zone objectives.
• Documents activities during demonstrations, capturing key insights, stakeholder interactions, operational challenges, and user feedback to support analysis and reporting.
• Assists with the collection, compilation, and organization of demonstration data and utilizes the corporate Geographic Information System (GIS) to analyze available data, as assigned.
• Supports the development of evaluation criteria in collaboration with subject matter experts.
• Provides event logistics support to the project team, and attends events and activities as required.
• Conducts demonstration zone site visits to collect demonstration and condition data and to ensure compliance with requirements and smooth operations of site.
Policy and Regulations Review and Coordination
• Supports research and project initiatives by compiling information, summarizing data, and preparing background material, presentations, and reports.
• Checks regulatory compliance required for the demonstrations and connect innovators with by-law or approval agencies to get needed approval or clearance for demonstrations
• Communicates clearly to innovators the regulatory requirements and assist innovators, wherever possible, to work towards compliance.
Other Duties
• Performs other related tasks and projects, as assigned, which are in accordance with job responsibilities or necessary departmental or corporate objectives.
• Responsible for ensuring compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and the corporate Occupational Health and Safety Policy and related procedures.
• Responsible for ensuring compliance with the Accessibility for Ontarians Disability Act (AODA) and related policy and procedures.
• University undergraduate degree in the field of urban planning, engineering or suitable equivalent.
• Minimum two (2) years’ experience related to major responsibilities.
• Valid Ontario “G” Driver’s License in good standing, with access to a reliable vehicle for
corporate use.
• Basic knowledge of statutes and regulatory controls affecting transportation planning and traffic operations.
• Basic knowledge of governance levels of regulatory agencies such as Transport Canada, Ministry of Transportation, York Region, Metrolinx, etc.
• Ability to multi-task in a high-paced, high volume work environment.
• Demonstrated problem solving abilities with a solutions-oriented approach.
• Good analytical, oral and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated good interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with the general public in a positive, courteous and respectful manner.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and with a multi-disciplinary team.
• Fluent in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint and ArcGIS Pro.
• Knowledge of, or demonstrated ability in, the City’s core competencies and relevant functional competencies.
Working Conditions:
• Standard office environment.
• Participation at in-person events (indoor and outdoor) – will include one-on-one discussions with the public. May be required to work outside normal work hours including evenings and weekends.
• This position requires a high level of community and stakeholder engagement including frequent visits to demonstration sites in Vaughan and GTA area.
Salary Range: $81,924 – $95,838 Per Year
