Rapid Non-Contact Tension Force Measurements on Stay Cables

Abstract

Vibration to Tension Force calculations are known in the engineering community through the Taut String Theory. Precise calculations require accurate identi- cation of the natural frequencies and incorporation of correction factors. Additionally, the duration of individual measurements must be optimized to allow for sufficient data aquisition. The work presented in this paper describes a cost e ective and optimized approach to determine the tension force in stay cables. This optimization is necessary to accommodate any funding restrictions.
