The relative performance of different snow-clearing materials and conditions under which they can be effective are examined using field Data. The efficiency of four different de-icing treatments (dry salt, pre-wetted salt, and pre-treated salt) was examined in four test areas across Ontario. A large quantity of data was collected using different mobile and fixed measuring technologies. The collected data were examined through graphical and statistical analyses. The graphical analysis involved the review of the patterns observed in the adopted performance measures and the statistical analysis involved a modelling effort through which the effectiveness of the applied treatments was statically compared.
