Duties

Reporting to the Infrastructure Manager, this role is integral to shaping the Central Region’s transportation network by leading project scoping for rehabilitation and capital construction initiatives; driving the development of the regional programs; leading regional planning activities (e.g. functional planning); and/or providing technical expertise on development applications. The position also delivers in-house preliminary engineering, geometric assessments, and safety assessments to inform project decisions and ensure safe, efficient, and future-ready infrastructure. 

Responsibilities:

Some of the responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:

  • Project Scoping & Delivery: Lead development of project scoping documents for rehabilitation and capital projects, including oversight of consultant studies (e.g., surfacing and geometric assessments) and coordination of hand-off to Construction.
  • Program Planning & Prioritization: Support development of regional 5- and 10-year highway programs by identifying, evaluating, and prioritizing projects based on safety, condition, and long-term network needs.
  • Regional Planning & Technical Oversight: Contribute to transportation planning initiatives, manage consultant studies, and provide technical reviews and recommendations to support infrastructure planning and development decisions.

 

Development Support & Stakeholder Relations: Provide technical input on development applications, liaise with municipalities and stakeholders, and address infrastructure-related issues through clear communication, negotiation, and alignment with departmental objectives.

Qualifications

Required:

  • University degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum five (5) years of related experience in transportation network / functional planning, project scoping, transportation safety, completing traffic impact assessments and/or development applications relating to transportation infrastructure.
  • A valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s Licence or equivalent.
  • Registered or eligible to obtain membership with APEGA
  • Sound engineering background in transportation safety, project scoping and/or transportation planning.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey technical concepts to non-technical audiences.

Additional related education considered in lieu of experience on a one-for-one basis

Salary and benefits

Salary: $3,525.22 – $4,880.90/ Bi-weekly ($92,008 – $127,391 / per year)
