Providing Opportunities through TAC’s Student Grant

Monday, February 3, 2020

The 2020 TAC Conference & Exhibition is a great opportunity for industry professionals to connect, network and expand their knowledge in the transportation industry. In order to provide this same opportunity to students starting out in the industry, we are very excited to offer at least one TAC Student Grant for the 2020 TAC Conference & Exhibition in Vancouver, BC.

Students who attend the TAC Conference & Exhibition will have the chance to enhance their educational and professional opportunities and be involved in one of the largest national gatherings of transportation professionals in Canada. With the help of sponsors, TAC heavily subsidizes conference registration for students by providing them with full access to the event, including meals, for $150. There is also free registration for students on Tuesday, otherwise known as Student Day.

The Student Grant recipient will receive full registration the event for free as well as free accommodation and travel to the conference. This includes a four-night hotel accommodation valued at around $1000 and round trip air transportation valued at around $700.

Anson Wong, an Urban Planning student from the University of Waterloo, received the Student Grant to attend the 2019 TAC-ITS Canada Joint Conference & Exhibition in Halifax.

“The TAC-ITS Conference was an amazing opportunity to expand my technical knowledge, meet like-minded professionals, and explore a new city. For the technical sessions and discussions, I was amazed at the scope of topics that were being covered – there was definitely something for everyone.

In terms of networking, […] it was great that there was a dedicated session for students and young professionals. I also found that many of the exhibitors were open to connecting with students which was another great networking opportunity. I would highly recommend going on as many [technical] tours as possible, it's the best way to meet people with similar interests while also getting to explore new and interesting places with unique transportation solutions.”

At least one student grant will be available to graduate and undergraduate (university and college) students in transportation-related disciplines to help them attend the 2020 TAC Conference & Exhibition in Vancouver, BC.

Students have until August 12 to apply online for the chance to attend a program of over 50 technical sessions, organized into 15 different topic areas, featuring 250 presenters. Good luck!
