Using the TAC Library Search Portal

Friday, March 27, 2020

The Transportation Association of Canada (TAC) Library offers an online search portal for TAC publications and conference papers, as well as for publications from across Canada and around the world. Many of these titles are available for immediate download, others may be available for loan.

The TAC Library search portal offers both quick search (enter keywords in a single text box) and advanced search (enter keywords, year, author, and several other criteria choices) options. The quick search portal also provides links to pre-programmed search results for a few currently popular topics, including CAVs and land-use planning.

Both the quick and advanced search options also have a check box to search only TAC’s conference proceedings.

Search tip: The keyword search field assumes an “and” between each keyword entered, so all search terms must be present to generate a result. Too many keywords = no results! Choose your keywords wisely.

The Search Results list will appear, sorted by title, but can also be sorted from new to old. Click on the blue title to view the abstract information. Where the full article is available, a hyperlink to the article is provided at the end of the listing.

Check the box ‘Add to list’ beside records of interest. When you’ve selected all the applicable results, select the option ‘View Selections (X items in your list)’ in the menu at the left.

This final list of selections can be emailed, saved, printed and more. Employees of TAC members can borrow most reports free for four weeks. Non-members can borrow also, but for a fee.

The short video below demonstrates the library’s search features.
