Abstract | FCM and the Urban Project convened city officials and thought-leaders from across Canada to explore key learnings from the early weeks of the COVID-19 crisis, solutions leveraging active transportation networks, and communications strategies to ensure residents know options for safe mobility are available — and developed a street rebalancing guide to help communities re-open safely. This COVID-19 Street Rebalancing Guide is for decision-makers and practitioners alike. Drawing on case studies from around the world, it offers strategies and practical guidance on rebalancing streets through three phases of COVID-19 response—from immediate to longer-term—including pedestrian and bike lanes, curbside queuing areas, and temporary patios and parklets. |

Abstract | The Manitoba government has released a planning framework for the resumption of in-class learning, with teachers and staff returning to classrooms on Sept. 2 and students on Sept. 8, Education Minister Kelvin Goertzen announced today. “We are planning to have all students, from kindergarten to Grade 12, back in classrooms in September. While we can’t be sure what the COVID-19 pandemic will look like in the fall, detailed planning is needed to ensure schools can resume in-class learning and to prepare for different scenarios,” said Goertzen. “This framework will allow schools and school divisions to prepare plans that are flexible at the local level, yet consistent with those at other sites across the province.” |

Abstract | TORONTO — The Ontario government is allowing more businesses and services to open and getting more people back to work by moving the City of Toronto and Peel Region into Stage 2 on Wednesday. This decision was made in consultation with the Chief Medical Officer of Health and the local medical officers of health. It is based on positive local trends of key public health indicators, including lower transmission of COVID-19, ongoing hospital capacity, public health capacity to do rapid case and contact management, and a significant increase in testing. |

Abstract | As libraries and museums around the country begin to resume operations and reopen to the public, the need for clear information to support the handling of core museum, library, and archival materials has become increasingly urgent. OCLC, the Institute of Museum and Library Services, and Battelle are conducting research on how long the COVID-19 virus survives on materials that are prevalent in libraries, archives, and museums. The project will draw upon the research to produce authoritative, science-based information on how—or if— materials can be handled to mitigate exposure to staff and visitors. |

Abstract | DUBLIN, Ohio, 22 June 2020—In the first phase of a project to develop and disseminate science-based information about how materials can be handled to mitigate exposure to staff and visitors, scientists have found that the virus SARS-CoV-2 that causes COVID-19 is not detectable on five common library materials after three days. The findings are part of the Reopening Archives, Libraries, and Museums (REALM) Project designed to generate scientific information to support the handling of core museum, library, and archival materials as these institutions begin to resume operations and reopen to the public. The first phase of the research is focusing on commonly found and frequently handled materials, especially in U.S. public libraries. |

Abstract | Now more than ever, we all appreciate the benefits of getting outside, being active, and exploring alternate options for commuting or just getting around town. When restrictions began in March due to COVID-19, walking and biking took centre stage as a safer and healthier option for getting around. We saw many jurisdictions across Canada take measures to increase accessibility for pedestrians and cyclists while ensuring the required 2m physical distancing. |
