Duties

Integrated Infrastructure Services designs and delivers infrastructure on behalf of Council and Edmontonians.

Reporting to the Director of Quality Assurance and Technical Services the Supervisor, Roadway Engineering and Construction Assurance is responsible to lead a team of Professional Engineers and staff to undertake, coordinate and review designs for surface civil engineering structures, materials and construction methods related to transportation infrastructure as well as those that provide inspections services for roadway projects during construction or related to warranty.

What will you do?

  • Lead a collaborative team and inspire them with purpose and vision to achieve their full potential
  • Provide subject matter expertise while understanding project constraints, the City’s long term goals for sustainability, climate resilience and the City Plan
  • Build and support influential relationships with senior leadership, internal departments and external partners
  • Oversee and provide necessary technical support for reviews, including providing comments for consideration on pavement and other transportation-related structure designs prepared by consultants for Capital projects at various project design stages (concept, preliminary, and detailed).
  • Oversee and review the generation of accurate, comprehensive and sustainable pavement structural designs for roadway and related projects including for preservation, rehabilitation, renewal, reconstruction and new construction that are completed in house.
  • Oversee and support to determine engineering scope related to pavements and review of project drawings at various stages of design
  • Provide senior oversight for field engineering and technical support; troubleshoot issues in the field and oversee the provision of field change notices
  • Provide leadership and senior oversight of the Inspections Services team that provide inspection and field support on roadway capital projects.
  • Provide leadership and oversight of the Final Acceptance Certification process liner capital projects.
  • Provide civil engineering subject matter expertise in the review and update of the City of Edmonton’s Complete Streets Design and Construction Standards
  • Cultivate strong relationships across diverse teams and stakeholders, fostering collaboration, trust, mutual respect and show the ability to problem solve and reach mutually agreeable outcomes
  • Focus on the team by building a respectful workplace culture through a values-based influencer approach and working collaboratively.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, Specializing in civil construction materials engineering or a related field
  • A Professional Engineer (P.Eng) designation is required and to be in good standing, or eligible for membership, with APEGA
  • Experience in a leadership role within a large, complex organization (municipal or government experience an asset)
  • Directly related experience in construction materials engineering, roadway construction and/or construction assurance
  • Experience applying technical understanding of pavements, pavement materials, pavement design and pavement treatments
  • Experience managing and working with external consultants
  • Combinations of education and experience will be considered

Salary and benefits

Salary: (Annually) $116,823.00 – $146,028.00

Conditions of Employment and Work Environment:

  • 1 permanent, full-time position
  • Hours of Work: 36.9 hours per week, Monday – Friday. This position ​may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement ​with ​the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite.
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s Licence (or provincial equivalent). Must arrange own transportation to be reimbursed in accordance with City of Edmonton policy. This may require business auto insurance.
  • Hire is dependent on Criminal Information Check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton. There may be a cost associated with this requirement.
