This position offers the unique opportunity to develop new parking and transportation demand management standards and help shape the future of the City’s transportation network.
JOB SUMMARY
This position will work closely with the City Project Manager to lead the delivery of the Parking and Transportation Demand Management Standards Update study as part of the City’s Housing Accelerator Fund Implementation Program. The Project Coordinator will oversee various study aspects, covering project activities, communication, administration, planning, research, implementation, and monitoring. In addition, the Project Coordinator will support other transportation studies and projects that align with the overall city-building objectives, facilitate an increased housing supply, and support the objectives of the Housing Accelerator Fund.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Reporting to the Manager, Transportation Policy & Strategy, you will:
- Manage various aspects of the Parking and Transportation Demand Management Standards Update study, covering project activities, communication, administration, planning, research, implementation, and monitoring.
- Develop an implementation strategy in collaboration with the Planning department that incorporates the Parking and Transportation Demand Management Standard Update recommendations into policies and zoning by-laws.
- Develop and draft parking and transportation demand management policies for secondary plans, ensuring they support the City’s multi-modal transportation and planning objectives.
- Perform technical review of the Parking and Transportation Demand Management Standards Update study and provide technical support in other transportation studies and projects, such as transportation master plans, feasibility and corridor studies, secondary plans, and active transportation initiatives that support increased housing supply.
- Prepare meeting minutes, draft council reports, technical memorandums, briefing notes, presentations, and responses to public and stakeholder inquiries.
- Organize and manage public engagement and outreach efforts, including coordination, attendance, development and review of engagement materials, and documentation of engagement results summary.
- Update the project webpage to ensure accurate and up-to-date information is available to stakeholders and the public.
- Liaise with staff across the organization and external stakeholders.
- Represent the City’s Transportation division at meetings with the public, relevant stakeholders, and City Council.
- Responsible for managing project budget expenditures.
- Other duties as assigned in support of the Housing Accelerator Fund Implementation Program.
REQUIRED SKILLS & COMPETENCIES
- A university degree or college diploma related to transportation planning is an asset.
- Minimum five years of working experience in transportation planning.
- Knowledgeable and demonstrate a good understanding of various land use and transportation planning principles.
- Demonstrated project management experience, including the ability to manage work plans, budgets and timelines, coordinate project activities, and ensure project objectives are met.
- Demonstrated experience in development-related transportation planning, such as transportation impact studies, parking justification studies, and transportation demand management plans.
- Good knowledge of municipal by-laws, policies, and guidelines for parking and transportation demand management.
- Familiarity with development application processes, such as Official Plan Amendments, Secondary Plans, Zoning By-Law Amendments, Plans of Subdivision, Site Plan Control, etc.
- Highly developed personal and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing with consultants, colleagues, and various internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to work effectively with consultants, colleagues, and various internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to attend project-related public engagement events at various locations within the City of Markham during and outside regular business hours.
- Proficiency in general computer software, including Microsoft Windows, Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
