Under the general direction of the Director of Public Works, the Manager of Engineering is responsible for the effective and efficient management of the Engineering Division. The Manager leads a diverse team that is responsible for providing engineering services in areas of asset management of roads and bridge infrastructure; capital program development; project management for planning, design and construction of roads and bridge infrastructure projects; review and oversight of Developer led transportation infrastructure design and construction; in-house design of road and bridge infrastructure projects; right of way services including GIS mapping, management of the cut restoration program, and approval of residential approach permits; bridge maintenance and operations; as well as develop and maintain engineering research, standards and specifications.
The Manager of Engineering is responsible to provide overall strategic operational direction that ensures effective delivery of Division services, capital projects, related programs and major project planning studies. The position provides leadership to support division staff, manages and develops operating and capital budgets, and conducts other financial reporting. The Manager is also involved in contract/agreement administration and negotiation in support of various projects.
As a representative of the Public Works department, the Manager of Engineering is a highly visible role that directly interacts with Mayor, Councilors, Provincial/Federal departments, public and media regarding capital projects and maintenance works.
