We are deeply saddened by the death of our dear friend and colleague, Ruth Eden. Ruth was the first woman to work for Manitoba Highways and Transportation, and was Assistant Deputy Minister for the Technical Services and Operations Division of Manitoba Infrastructure at the time of her passing. The evaluation of papers submitted by Canadian authors as part of the Canada National Level Competition has concluded and the following papers have been selected as winners:

Congratulations to you both! Accordingly, the same two papers are hereby nominated for consideration of the PIARC International prizes under the Winter Service and Resilience themes.

Chantal Lanthier, Executive Director, Major Initiatives and Program Development, Transportation and Infrastructure Programs, Transport Canada, has been named Canada’s First Delegate to the World Road Association (PIARC). She replaces Natalie Bossé who recently retired. Read more.

Amir Abd El Halim has been appointed as Senior Vice President, Operations at Englobe.

Elli Papaioannou has left HDR for the City of Toronto where she holds the position of Senior Project Manager, Cycling and Pedestrian Projects. Elli is the 2020 recipient of TAC’s Young Transportation Professional Award. Read more.

Paul LaFleche is no longer Deputy Minister of Nova Scotia Transportation and Active Transit. Paul has been assigned two new portfolios: Departments of Seniors and Long-Term Care, and Municipal Affairs and Housing. Read more.

Peter Hackett has been appointed Deputy Minister of Nova Scotia Public Works (formerly Nova Scotia Transportation and Active Transit). Read more.

Blair Wagar returns to the Saskatchewan’s Ministry of Highways portfolio as Deputy Minister (DM). Blair previously held the position of Assistant Deputy Minister of Energy Regulation beginning in May 2020. Prior to that, Blair was the Assistant Deputy Minister, Planning & Policy Division, Ministry of Highways. Read more.
