Duties

At the outset, we are hoping the individual that fills this role will produce drawings based on mark-ups, red-lines and sketches prepared by technical staff; however, there is a lot of room to grow in this position. With experience and mentoring; we expect the team member to be able to start drawings from conceptual and progress the drawings to approximately 66% with limited oversight from our engineers and senior technicians. 

The team focuses largely on road and linear infrastructure design across an extensive geographic area. Projects are variable and range from small road improvements to large scale regional road improvements.  The team assists clients on projects from concept to completion.

The position will involve (but is not limited to) carrying out the following tasks, and includes:

  • Utilize AutoCAD Civil 3D and Microstation Inroads / Openroads to design and produce functional, preliminary and detailed design drawings for all classes of roads, sewer and watermain projects;
  • Production of detailed engineering drawings including plan, profile, and section drawings;
  • Proactively advance design techniques and procedures to support designers, project managers and technicians;
  • Prepare cost estimates, quantities, and tender packages;
  • Prepare necessary reports including calculations;
  • Undertake site visits and construction field reviews; and
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

The following qualifications, experience and skills are required:

  • Diploma/certificate in Civil Engineering from a civil engineering technology program
  • Proficiency in design software including AutoCAD Civil 3D and MicroStation Inroads / Openroads
  • Experience working as part of a project team in a consulting environment and within a
    multi-office environment
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational and analytical skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
