Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. We are also building new and improved rapid transit, including GO Expansion, Light Rail Transit routes, and major expansions to Toronto’s subway system, to get people where they need to go, better, faster and easier. Our Rapid Transit Project Planning Office within Planning & Development Division is seeking an experienced Advisor to contribute to the planning and development of initiatives including rapid transit projects in support of the Regional Transportation Plan. This position reports to Manager, Rapid Transit Planning.

What will I be doing?

  • Assists team members with leading and overseeing of multi-disciplinary consultant teams in the development of rapid transit projects (subways, BRT, LRT)
  • Manages rapid transit planning projects, station, and transit corridor planning projects,

including project development, business cases, options analysis, and conceptual design

  • Contributes quantitative and qualitative analysis, as well as professional insight to project planning evaluation, and research
  • Facilitates complex stakeholder relationships with municipal partners, provincial ministries and other jurisdictions
  • Provides input and advice to staff and management on transportation policy and planning issues in the overall context of the government’s transportation priorities
  • Develops planning reports, presentations and discussion papers

 

What skills & qualifications do I need?

  • Completion of a University Degree in Urban Planning, Urban Design, Transportation or an advanced/specialist technical certification, requiring an equivalent number of years of post-secondary education
  • Minimum four (4) years professional experience in multi-modal transportation planning, with demonstrated experience in coordinating concurrent projects, analyzing and evaluating findings, assessing implications, developing conclusions and making effective recommendations. Experience with rapid transit projects would be considered an asset.
  • Strong planning, research, analytical and problem solving skills to identify transportation, land use and environmental issues, with an understanding of current transportation policies, plans, programs, and directions
  • Excellent communication, writing, presentation, negotiation, consultation, facilitation, and
  • stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong project management skills, including budgeting, coordinating contracts, and overseeing vendors/consultants
