Technote: Synthesis - The Reduction and Analysis of Pavement Profiler Data to Quantify the Bump at the End of the Bridge

Monday, March 30, 2020 - 17:45

To facilitate efficient pavement and bridge management programs, it is important to implement practices that measure and quantify roughness at bridge approaches. It is vital to establish standardized quality indices based on quantitative approaches. Engineers can use these indices to determine the condition of a particular bridge approach and subsequently evaluate the need for maintenance and rehabilitation efforts. This research study was initiated to explore potential methods to quantify the surface roughness at bridge approaches and analyze the advantages and disadvantages of each method. This TechNote presents findings from an extensive literature review carried out under the scope of this project.  The full document is available from the US FHWA at https://www.fhwa.dot.gov/publications/research/infrastructure/structures/bridge/20021/20021.pdf
