Aging Canadian Population: June 18 Lecture in Toronto

Tuesday, May 27, 2014

The next event in the Transportation 2014 Canadian lecture series, entitled Meeting the Transportation Needs of the Aging Canadian Population, will take place in Toronto, Ontario on Wednesday, June 18 at 9:00 am.

This will be the fourth in a cross-country lecture series that is part of the Transportation 2014 campaign coordinated by the Transportation Association of Canada (TAC).

“The number of Canadians aged 65 or older is expected to double by 2036,” says panel moderator Heidi Francis, Director, Safety Policy and Education, Ministry of Transportation of Ontario.  “Our experts will discuss how this increase will lead to new transportation demands by the aging population and require innovative responses from policymakers, companies and academia at all levels.”

Three transportation-related industry experts will discuss this topical issue:

  • Doug Bardeau, Technical Service Representative, 3M Canada
  • Kumar Ranjan, Associate Director, Transportation Planning, Niagara Region
  • Khandker M. Nurul Habib, PhD., P. Eng., Assistant Professor, University of Toronto Transportation Research Institute

The 90-minute panel discussion, beginning at 9:30, will take place at the University of Toronto, 155 College Street, Health and Science Building, Room 610. Admission is free and open to everyone.  Those wishing to attend are asked to register online.  Networking will begin at 9:00.

The last stop in the cross-country Transportation 2014 lectures tour is Montreal, Quebec on September 23, a few days before the 2014 TAC Conference & Exhibition. For other special activities and events, including the 2014 Transportation Showcase, visit the Transportation 2014  website.
