Allan Widger Consulting Corporation Grant for Young Geotechnical Engineers in Transportation

Nominations are now closed!

This grant provides financial support to a young geotechnical engineer working in transportation to enable his/her attendance and participation in the annual TAC conference and fall technical meetings (up to $3,500) and TAC’s spring technical meetings (up to $1,500). The winner will attend meetings of the Pavements Standing Committee and the Soils and Materials Standing Committee, and is encouraged to attend other committee meetings and technical sessions.

Applicants must:

  • Be 35 years old or less on December 31 in the year the award is made
  • Hold at least a master’s degree in geotechnical engineering (or equivalent)
  • Be employed by a TAC member organization
  • Have at least three years of work experience in the transportation field
  • Not be a full-time student

Applications require a CV and a description (up to 750 words) of the applicant’s work accomplishments, reasons for wanting to attend the TAC conference and technical meetings, and anticipated benefits of doing so. Previous grant recipients may re-apply, but will be considered only if they are presenting in a TAC conference technical session. Applicants agree to write a one-page report following the spring and fall meetings, suitable for publication on TAC’s website/social media, with event highlights and comments about how participation will benefit her/his professional development.

Applications are reviewed by a selection committee, which reserves the right to not approve a winner. All applicants will be notified of results by March 31.

Expenses eligible for reimbursement include conference registration for the winner (and companion program registration if desired), economy air/train/bus fare or car mileage, ground transportation and hotel accommodations.
