5th Edition: Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices for Canada

Friday, February 21, 2014

The Transportation Association of Canada (TAC)’s Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices for Canada (2014) (MUTCDC) can now be ordered via the TAC Bookstore.

Replacing the 1998 version, the 2014 Manual provides guidelines and preferred methods in the design, dimensions and application of devices for the control of traffic and the provision of information to drivers and other road users.

These devices constitute a system for conveying messages to the road user which advise of traffic regulations in order to enable observance of the law, or warn of road characteristics, road hazards and temporary conditions.  Meeting these objectives improves safety, serves the convenience of the road user, and promotes the efficient movement of persons and goods and the orderly flow of traffic.

A new division on roundabout signs, pavement markings as well as typical applications of these control devices, has been added. Section C also contains a new division on recommended colour surface treatment including principles of implementation for transit lanes.

Priced at $399 for TAC members and $525 for others, the 590 page-publication is available in both print and e-book formats.

Over 100 new signs will be included in the MUTCDC’s accompanying publication, Sign Pattern Manual, for which updates are currently being prepared.
