Built in 1834 as the official residence for PEI’s Lieutenant Governors, Fanningbank Government House offers a commanding view of the Charlottetown Harbour, spacious lawns, tree-lined walks, and formal gardens. Its heritage value lies in its well-preserved exterior and interior elements. This residence represents several important eras in the Island's political development, including colonial administration, the achievement of responsible government and the Confederation era.
