About TAC

TAC as a Bilingual Association

The technical knowledge and expertise of committee members, participation in TAC activities and events, and member involvement and leadership of TAC projects are important keys to our association’s continued success. As such, TAC endeavours to provide as many of its products, services and opportunities as possible in both English and French.

The following list highlights TAC’s current practice for communicating with and serving its members in the official language of their choice. All are available in both English and French, unless otherwise indicated.

 

1. Board of Directors
  a) Meetings: simultaneous translation provided
2. Technical program
  a) National technical manuals: available in both languages, with a few exceptions; if in English only, a French-language summary is included

  b) Syntheses of best practices/guidelines: translated as recommended by the project committee, based on funding availability
  c) Reports and primers: translated as recommended by the project committee, based on funding availability
  d) Council, committee and working group meetings and minutes: English only
  e) Sponsored project descriptions for projects in development or in progress: translated and posted on the Website
  f) Courses and seminars: English only, unless facilitator is bilingual and demand warrants a French-language version
3. Annual conference and exhibition
  a) Event promotion, including program and registration
  b) Delegate information materials
  c) Presentations for the technical paper sessions: partial or comprehensive simultaneous translation services provided on site, depending on location
  d) Conference proceedings: papers published in the language they are submitted
  e) Services, site visits, etc.: available in French as much as possible, depending on the location
4. General information
  a) Quarterly newsletter (TAC News)
  b) Website
  c) Membership directory
  d) Other documents provided to members
5. Member services
  a) General member communications: by telephone, electronic means or mail
  b) Technical communications: in English if the staff member is not able to communicate in French
6. TAC Foundation
  a) Scholarship details, including applications and general information
  b) General services
7. Information and research services
  a) Library loan service, including the catalogue of electronic documents: 70% in English, 30% in French
  b) Document search services
  c) Electronic databases: English only
