Three TAC member companies have won top awards in various categories at British Columbia's 12th annual Deputy Ministers' Consulting Engineering Awards.

The awards recognize technical excellence in consulting engineer services that improve transportation infrastructure in the province:

  • Urban Systems Ltd. of Vancouver was recognized in Alternative Transportation for the Stanley Park Causeway pedestrian and cycling safety improvement project. This task was particularly complex because of the need to deliver a design for significant safety improvements while preserving the natural environment of Stanley Park.
  • R.F. Binnie and Associates Ltd. of Prince George won for Design and Contract Preparation – Roads for the Highway 16 Sande-Keith intersection upgrade. In addition to grading, drainage, municipal utilities, paving, and electrical elements, the firm’s design work included simulations of vehicle and pedestrian traffic.
  • McElhanney Consulting Services and Urban Systems Ltd. of Kamloops received the top award in Specialized Engineering Services for the Ellis Creek fish bypass channel in Penticton. The winning design featured an upstream fish passage allowing fish species to freely navigate around a 1.5 metre high obstruction. Other challenges included variable stream flows and limited space for the works to be constructed.

Stantec Consulting Ltd. has been selected as the exclusive engineering firm for Ottawa 2017. “We’re excited that Stantec, an international design firm with strong Canadian roots, has partnered with Ottawa 2017 to help shape a full year of celebrations in the nation’s capital for Canada’s 150th anniversary,” said Mayor Jim Watson. A global leader with expertise in architectural, engineering, and environmental services, Stantec will provide engineering support for a variety of Ottawa 2017 projects and events.
