Duties

Our thriving Transportation Planning team is an integral part of our practice and is looking for the next capable and enthusiastic junior team member. Our team members enjoy working alongside industry leaders on exciting and challenging projects that make a visible difference in many communities across western Canada and beyond. 

You will be working with an experienced team of engineers and planners in a fast-paced environment on exciting projects, both large and small, that make positive impacts in our communities.  Your abilities to engage and contribute are only limited by your own ambition.

Specifically, you can expect to be involved in:

  • Providing support to the Kelowna based Transportation Planning Practice with data collection, transportation analysis, planning level design/cost estimating, and report writing.
  • Transportation support to local clients including traffic and safety studies, corridor planning, active transportation planning, multi-modal transportation plans, municipal design support, and development reviews.
  • Providing traffic engineering support for the Highway Design Practice including forecasting, traffic and warrant analysis, and signing/pavement marking design.

Qualifications

Our preferred candidate will be a graduate of an accredited Engineering Technology diploma program or equivalent, with a focus on traffic / transportation engineering and planning.  Programs such as the Transportation Engineering Technology diploma at Mohawk College are directly relevant. Candidates with 1-2 years of related experience with a demonstrated record of technical knowledge, skills and abilities in transportation planning and/or traffic engineering is preferred. Co-op experience will be considered.  In particular, you will have the following skills, strengths and interests:

  • Experience in the completion of typical transportation/traffic studies including transportation data collection, multi-modal transportation plans, corridor studies, traffic impact studies and road safety analysis
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively (both written and verbal) and proficiency using Microsoft Word and Excel  
  • Experience using transportation modelling/analysis software including Synchro/SimTraffic, HCS, Sidra, VISSIM, etc.
  • AutoCAD Civil 3D and other civil design software.
  • A keen eye for details and you take great pride in your work in both the large marquee projects, and the small but significant ones.
  • Thrive in fast paced environments; enjoy the challenge of changing situations and working with clients.
