R.J. Burnside & Associates Limited (Burnside) has an opening for a Transportation professional with 5 - 10 years of transportation experience to join our growing Transportation Group.  This position will work out of our Pickering Office and will report to the Vice President, Transportation.

The Transportation Group at Burnside services public and private clients in the GTA and across Ontario, where there are a variety of current and future projects at various stages of development.  Our team has extensive experience managing diverse project to meet client needs.  The team focuses on transportation planning studies across an extensive geography area. 

Projects are variable and range from small traffic studies to large scale planning studies. Some of our services include Traffic Impact Studies, Parking Studies, Transportation Master Plans, Traffic Engineering, and Class Environmental Assessments.

The Role

The position will involve (but is not limited to) carrying out the following tasks, and includes:

  • Prepare traffic and parking studies;
  • Work on Transportation Master Plans and multi-modal projects;
  • Review of site plans;
  • Coordinate and conduct field studies;
  • Undertake operational traffic analysis including isolated intersections, corridors, roundabouts as well as urban arterials and freeway segments;
  • Analyze parking supply requirements and review geometrics;
  • Prepare necessary reports including calculations; and
  • Other duties as assigned.


The following qualifications, experience and skills are required:

  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) along with excellent interpersonal abilities
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or Planning / Transportation Engineering Technology Diploma or equivalent
  • 5 – 10 years of related work experience
  • Proficiency in Synchro/Simtraffic and Arcady and experience with VISSIM an asset
  • Knowledge in AutoCAD or Microstation software
  • Experience working as part of a project team willingness to work in a team atmosphere
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational and analytical skills
  • Familiarity with current standards and practices of the industry
  • High degree of problem solving and decision making skills
