Duties

CIMA+ is currently seeking applications for an experienced Senior Urban Transportation Planner for our Calgary, Alberta office.  We are interested in qualified individuals with more than 20 years of progressive experience in the transportation planning field.  The successful candidate should have strong technical planning experience, superb interpersonal skills, and excel in written and verbal communication.

Responsibilities

  • Lead large multidisciplinary teams in conducting transportation planning studies including needs assessments, corridor reviews, corridor management, transportation master plans, access management, road network and functional plans for both urban and rural environments.
  • Supervise traffic engineering and operational studies including traffic impact studies, site plan reviews, parking studies and transit studies.
  • Lead the preparation of detailed functional and other plans by the engineering team, including project staging and traffic management plans.
  • Coordinate in-house support and sub consultant disciplines.
  • Train and mentor less-experienced employees.
  • Collaborate with other offices and sector groups.
  • Supervise the transportation planning/engineering component of specific projects, including guidance of technical staff, technical reviews and problem-solving.
  • Lead technical report writing, including preparation of public documents.
  • Prepare materials for, and present at, public meetings and open houses.
  • Present project findings to senior Client groups, including elected officials.
  • Lead project progress and technical meetings.
  • Manage project budgets/schedules and ensure adequate staff on-hand to execute projects.
  • Maintain Client liaison and meet Client requirements as per contractual agreements.
  • Support business development by maintaining existing Client relationships and establishing new ones.
  • Lead and/or support opportunity pursuits and preparation of technical proposals.
  • Representation at industry conferences.

Qualifications

  • A university degree in Civil Engineering, combined with a minimum of 20 years’ experience.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience in Alberta.
  • Licensed by the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) as a Professional Engineer (P. Eng.).
  • Experience working in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Experience and knowledge of a broad range of transportation planning studies, including transportation modelling.
  • Familiarity with the functional planning principles, as well as the relevant policies, processes and procedures of The City of Calgary and Alberta Transportation.
  • A strong command of English and high degree of comfort with public speaking.
  • Ability to travel on occasion.
