CIMA+ is currently seeking applications for an experienced Senior Transportation Design Technologist for our Calgary, Alberta office.  We are interested in qualified individuals with more than 15 years of roadway design experience.  The successful candidate should have extensive technical design experience on large-scale transportation infrastructure projects, superb interpersonal skills, and excel in written and verbal communication.

We are looking for a focused and highly organized individual who wants to be challenged and is ready to join a dynamic team that is rapidly expanding.  CIMA+ is a well-established, multidisciplinary, Canadian engineering firm with expanding operations in Western Canada.


  • Lead the development of engineering designs for major transportation infrastructure projects including urban roadways, highway interchanges, bridges, transit (LRT/BRT), intermodal yards; as well as other civil works such as site grading and storm water management facilities.
  • Responsible for setting up and developing engineering drawing plans, sections, profiles and details in compliance with Client’s CAD standards and protocols
  • Coordinate in-house support and sub consultant disciplines
  • Drawing coordination with structural, drainage, electrical and other disciplines (as required)
  • Calculate dimensions and quantities; prepare cost and material estimates
  • Provide technical support throughout the project life-cycle
  • Implement drafting standards and drawing management system
  • Interpret survey data
  • Shop drawing review
  • Collaborate with other offices and sector groups
  • Maintain high quality and integrity of deliverables
  • Train and mentor less-experienced employees
  • Ultimately lead a small team of designers/drafters
  • Work independently and as part of a project team
  • Support opportunity pursuits and preparation of proposals
  • Estimate design level of effort
  • Representation at industry conferences


  • A technology diploma combined with a minimum of 15 years’ transportation infrastructure design experience.A university degree may also be considered
  • A minimum of 5 years’ relevant design experience in Alberta
  • Accredited by The Association of Science & Engineering Technology Professionals of Alberta as a Professional Technologist (P.Tech.).Other industry designations such as P.Eng. and CET may also be considered
  • Knowledgeable in TAC design principles, as well as the drafting and design standards of The City of Calgary and Alberta Transportation
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of Transportation Planning and Engineering
  • High proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D with practical knowledge of InRoads and MicroStation
  • Experience working in a multidisciplinary team environment
  • Design-build / P3 experience
  • Familiarity with project collaboration software platforms (e.g., Sharepoint, ProjectWise)
  • Ability to prioritize a variety of tasks and have the attitude that Client service is top priority
  • Exceptional communication skills including a strong command of English (written and verbal)
  • General understanding of traffic engineering principles
  • Ability to travel on occasion
