Duties

There is 1 position available that can be located in any of the following locations: Victoria, Coquitlam, Kamloops, or Prince George

The Structural Engineering Section provides engineering services, technical advice and recommendations and policy compliance monitoring with respect to the design, construction, inspection rehabilitation and maintenance of bridges and other structures for the Provincial highway system.  These services are provided using both in-house staff and outside consultants.  These services are provided primarily to support projects and programs carried out across all of the Province of British Columbia.

Under the direction of the Structural Liaison Manager, the position provides the design of bridges and other structures in compliance with ministry policies, guidelines, standards and specifications through in-house resources or consultants.  Projects can include design of new and replacement bridges or structures; rehabilitation, widening or strengthening of existing bridges or structures; repairs to existing bridges or structures; inspections and assessments of existing bridges or structures.  The position produces contracts for the construction of new and replacement bridges or structures and rehabilitation of existing bridges or structures and provides construction cost estimates.

Qualifications

  • University degree in civil engineering with specialization in structural engineering supplemented by;
  • At least seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in the design of bridges and related highway structures;
  • Considerable experience in dealing with consultants or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must be registered or immediately eligible for registration as a fully licensed Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers And Geoscientists of British Columbia (APEGBC).
