Salary $60,531.87 - $69,104.56 annually
The Ministry of Transportation is committed to opening up BC through innovative, forward-thinking transportation strategies that move people and goods safely throughout BC, while helping revitalize the provincial economy. In support of this mandate, the Engineering Program provides for the delivery of expert professional advice and multidisciplinary specialist support services in Highway Design and Survey Engineering, Bridge and Structural Engineering, Geotechnical and Materials Engineering, Traffic Operations, Electrical, and Environmental Services.

The Engineering Program ensures that expenditures on the highway system yield a maximum benefit to the motoring public by directing a rigorous value analysis of engineering projects, and through extensive consultation with stakeholders and local governments.  The Ministry strives to stay current with engineering and technological developments and advancements related to highway and bridge infrastructure standards, design, construction, maintenance and operation.

The Senior Highway Design Technician role encompasses developing and recommending strategies for the development of construction sequencing and project scheduling; utilizing design and modeling software to produce detailed engineering plans; providing technical expertise to Consulting Services Managers in the management of consulting services contracts; and ensuring highway design drawings comply with project objectives and safety standards.

Qualifications

Qualifications for this role include:

  • Technical Diploma in an engineering related discipline, and a minimum of 5 years of directly related experience in highway design, or an equivalent combination of education and experience including working in highway engineering, traffic engineering or a related field.
  • Preference may be given to applicants with transportation related experience.
