Reporting to the Manager of Transportation within the Engineering Department, the Manager of Traffic Engineering will lead the management of a safe, efficient and increasingly complex City transportation system. The Manager of Traffic Engineering is responsible for three team leads and a staff of 21 who plan, manage, commission, and maintain 355 traffic signals, over 100,000 overhead and ground mounted traffic signs, pavement markings, and 29,000 streetlights.  This innovative team has established a leading-edge Traffic Management Centre with real time access to signals, cameras and sensors to optimize traffic flow and improve safety. The Manager of Traffic Engineering oversees a traffic operations model that reflects the evolution of technology in traffic management as well as a modal shift toward transit, cycling, and walking.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will have a Bachelor's Degree, ideally in Civil Engineering with a specialty in transportation. The successful candidate will have a P.Eng designation or limited license, be in good standing with APEGBC, and have five years’ experience in a leadership role. Experience in the municipal environment is an asset. The role requires excellent interpersonal, communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills along with extensive technical knowledge of traffic engineering, road design standards and guidelines, roadway electrical systems, road safety, and budgeting.
