Duties

CIMA+ is currently seeking applications for an experienced Construction Specialist – Transportation Infrastructure for our Calgary, Alberta office.  We are interested in qualified individuals with more than 10 years of progressive experience administering construction contracts for major transportation infrastructure projects.  The successful candidate should have extensive on-site construction experience, a high regard for site safety, superb interpersonal skills, and excel in written and verbal communication.

Responsibilities

  • Construction supervision and contract administration for major transportation infrastructure projects including urban roadways, highway interchanges, bridges, transit (LRT/BRT), intermodal yards; as well as other civil works such as site development and stormwater management facilities
  • General construction quality assurance (QA)
  • Manage Requests for Information
  • Track and verify construction quantities; recommend payment
  • Monitor safety and environmental compliance of Contractor activities
  • Lead pre-construction meetings
  • Lead construction progress meetings
  • Coordination with external stakeholders
  • Monitor and report on construction progress
  • Keep records of as-constructed changes for the purpose of verifying Contractor’s records
  • Conduct Substantial Completion, Construction Completion and Final Maintenance inspections
  • Oversee rectification of deficiencies
  • Participate in Contractor performance evaluations
  • Coordinate in-house support (e.g., survey) and subconsultant disciplines (e.g., materials testing)
  • Train and mentor less-experienced employees
  • Provide design input regarding construction costs, constructability, construction sequencing, and staging of construction
  • Maintain Client liaison and meet Client requirements as per contractual agreements
  • Support business development by maintaining existing Client relationships and establishing new ones
  • Support opportunity pursuits and preparation of proposals

Qualifications

  • Strong communication and negotiation skills, team spirit and a capacity for finding solutions to problems
  • A technical diploma or university degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management, combined with a minimum of 10 years’ transportation infrastructure construction experience
  • A minimum of 5 years’ relevant construction supervision/inspection experience in Alberta
  • Familiarity with the relevant policies, processes and procedures of The City of Calgary and Alberta Transportation
  • A sound understanding of construction methodology and constructability principles
  • Familiar with project scheduling software including MS Project
  • Experienced user of MS Office software including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Exceptional communication skills including a strong command of English (written and verbal)
  • Ability to travel and be away from home for extended periods
