Join Canada’s Conversation on Climate Change

Monday, May 9, 2016

Environment and Climate Change Minister Catherine McKenna has launched a web portal for Canadians to engage in the development of a pan-Canadian framework for clean growth and climate change.

The framework will enable Canada to meet its international emissions targets and transition to a low carbon and climate resilient economy. Provincial, territorial and federal governments are working together with Indigenous Peoples and the public to shape Canada’s approach to climate change. Interested individuals must first register to join the conversation and submit their idea(s) online.

A declaration on clean growth and climate change was released following Canada’s First Ministers' Meeting on March 3, 2016, in Vancouver, British Columbia.

The Vancouver Declaration on Clean Growth and Climate Change established working groups to identify options for action in four areas:

  • clean technology, innovation and jobs;
  • carbon pricing mechanisms;
  • specific mitigation opportunities; and
  • adaptation and climate resilience

The portal will collect ideas for all above-listed areas. Canadians are encouraged to contribute ideas by June 1, 2016. Submissions should include as much information as possible on costs and benefits such as emissions reductions, key risks, and clean jobs.

The input provided through this portal will feed into the working groups and will inform recommendations for First Ministers, who are scheduled to meet again in the fall.
